I was sitting on my deck recently watching the hummingbirds fighting for a spot at the feeder when I noticed this beautiful Swallowtail feasting on my zinnias. I got my camera and patiently waited for the butterfly to land. After several blurred photos I finally got one. Looking at the image I appreciate the beauty of nature even more. Man cannot create this delicate wonder. As summer comes to an end and flowers begin to fade, take a moment to enjoy the colors, sounds and smells of nature as she transitions into the warm colors of fall.
We discovered Ruby’s on this trip. Sorry we didn’t go there last trip. The food is out of this world! We went on Tuesday night. It’s off season here so there was no crowd. We were told by locals that you can’t get a seat during peak season. We found out why. First night Dan got meatball Parmesan and I got pasta sampler. Every bite was a taste experience. There was more than enough food so we took home leftovers.
Friday night we went again. This time we got fried zucchini with home made marinara. I’m told they are going to start selling the marinara. I’ll be first in line to order! I tried fettuccini Alfredo, not disappointed at all. Dan got the red snapper stuffed with artichokes and mushrooms with a side of pasta. Again, we were in tastebuds heaven. Finishing up we shared a cannoli, yummy. Wish Ruby would move to Tennessee! If you are ever in Pompano, you must try Ruby’s.
Twenty five or more years ago, we were in Florida and I made a cheese and dill pickle sandwich. I added ranch dressing. We were at the beach and that was a staple food then. It’s 2016, and every trip to the beach I still make pickle and cheese sandwiches. It’s tradition. A few weeks ago I was watching an episode of Doc Martin on Netflix and a couple was going on a picnic and they had cheese and pickle sandwiches! Who knew? Was it in our Scottish/ British blood. Pickle and cheese forever!
I like my Fuji XT-10 camera. I’ve had it sense December and I’m finally beginning to know its settings and what it will do. I’ve been a Canon person for 40 years and making the change was quite challenging, but I think we are now good friends. I am blessed this trip to Pompano Beach because my bed faces the balcony and all I have to do is step outside to make the sunrise. Every one is different! I have yet to get the sun coming up directly on the ocean. Seems there are always low clouds hugging the sea. Oh well, this shot works for me. Another gorgeous day at the beach. Time for coffee! Have a beautiful day!
April through October is nesting time for sea turtles. 90 % of sea turtles nest on Florida shores. A turtle will come to the beach, lay her eggs and leave. They never know if the hatchlings make it to the sea. You can see people combing the beach with stakes and neon tape to mark off the nesting sites. They are all over the beaches. After the turtles hatch the eggs are scattered over the beach. Defenders of Wildlife website says that about 1 in 1000 turtles make it to adulthood.
Another beautiful sunrise. There weren’t clouds like yesterday but there were low clouds on the horizon. Finally the sun peeped out
Saturday I found some nice shells. Sunday I sat on the balcony and made a few items. Sunday was more hunting. The fun of the beach is walking and looking for treasures from the sea. You never know what will turn up. I’m now on a quest for sea glass. I’ve only found a few pieces in all these years, but maybe it’s been there and I just overlooked it. I found a couple of small pieces and Dan found one last night. Yesterday I walked almost 8 miles up and down the beach!
